India Reserve Battalion

The Department of India Reserve Battalion, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu and Dadra & Nagar Haveli was sanctioned in the year 1996 by Government of India order dated 2nd February 1996. The strength of the Battalion has been shared for the two Union Territories at the ratio of three Companies at Lakshadweep and 4 companies with DNH & DD. The recruitment was made from the year 1999 onwards in four phases and the recruits were imparted basic training in BSF training Institutions such as STC BSF Bangalore, Tekenpur and Jodhpur. The Battalion, on raising, has been formally dedicated to the nation by Shri. L K Advani, the then Hon’ble Home Minister on 16/12/2000.
